In a recent study, researchers found that most people read web pages in the shape of the letter “F”. You can view the story here.
Researchers said that most people will start out reading a web page horizontally, line by line type reading. But people eventually stop reading horizontally and scan the article down the left hand side. Besides having huge implications for web developers, these findings say something about our culture.
If you read a web page in the “F” pattern, you’re missing a lot of information from whatever you’re reading. It’s almost like you’ll be reading the first part of this sentence, but then miss the end of it. You’ll read:
THIS
But you will not ever read past THIS part of the senctence.
Apparently our ADD, commericial driven nation doesn’t have the stamina to read an entire article all the way through. Did you?
