Most of you, if not all of you, have at one time or do currently have a profile on one of these two websites. Some people, like myself, even have profiles on both. So I thought it might be good to compare these two “social networking” sites.
MySpace I would assume that pretty much everybody has heard of and know what the website is. Facebook possibly not. Facebook was created by a Harvard undergraduate in 2004 as a social networking site exclusively for college students. Over the last couple years, the Facebook creators have added more features to their website, and it was recently opened to the general public, so anyone can join.
A list of the common features of both include:
- Music in your profile
- Your own Blog
- Events
- Groups
- Photos
- Classifieds (called Marketplace in Facebook)
- Send mail
You can see that these two websites are pretty much similar in features, but I’m here to tell you that Facebook is the better website! Here are the two reasons:
Facebook has a lot better look than MySpace — you can’t customize the look of your profile like MySpace, which is a good thing. MySpace is like the Microsoft of websites and Facebook like the Apple of websites. Sorry MySpace’rs.
Reason number 2? Facebook has opened up its website to its users. You can write “Applications” that people can use on their account to do everything from playing a little Rock, Paper, Scissors to taking a political poll to drawing “Graffiti” on your friends’ walls. In essence, it’s always a good thing when you open up development to the public.
So go sign up for a Facebook account now! And don’t forget to friend request me!

I could totally smell this post brewing on the back burner! I do have to agree with you though. I like Facebook much better. But I have found that most people don’t get it or understand what it is or how it works, so they won’t sign up for it. We must change that!

I started using this application on facebook called graffiti, and you basically “paint” a picture (using your mouse) and post it on a friend’s profile. It’s very entertaining
