I’m not sure how many of you are Mac users. I am not currently Mac user, but my hope is to own a Mac computer when the new version of Mac OS X is released (reportedly in October).
But today was the first day of the WWDC — Apple’s World Wide Developer’s Conference. They often make a lot of announcements on products that are coming soon and give an idea of the different things they are doing. So I thought I’d share some of the recent news out of Apple about some of the new products and softwares they are coming out with.
- Safari for Windows and Macs — this was a new development coming out today. Apple has released it’s browser (like Firefox or Internet Explorer) for both Windows and Mac machines. So if you’re a Windows user, you can download Safari for free from Apple.com
- New iMacs — these have not yet been announced, but it is rumored (my source) that the new iMacs will be unveiled in the next month or so. They are rumored to have a look similar to the Cinema Displays that Apple currently sells.
- iPhone — it has been public since January that the iPhone was coming out later this month, but Apple announced today some of the applications that will be available for the iPhone. You can check those out here.
- Mac OS X 10.5 (a.k.a Leopard) — since Windows released it’s new operating system Vista earlier this year, many people have been anxiously awaiting Mac’s new edition of their operating system. Apple has kept a lot of information about Leopard’s features secret until today, when Apple’s CEO announced 10 of the major changes to the Mac operating system. To see a list of these features, click here. One feature I found especially interesting is called “Spaces” — it essentially lets you organize your desktop into, well, spaces. The other interesting change is that the way that you browse through files on your computer resembles the same interface as iTunes. Be sure to check out the demos for the features.
- EA Sports Games return to Mac — this is not necessarily as big an announcement as the others, but it is definitely welcome news for many gamers who have switched over to Apple in the past few years.
If you want to know more about what happens at Apple’s conference this week, be sure to check out CNET.com for the latest happenings.
