I was browsing on the internet the other day, avoiding doing some studying, when I came across an article titled, “FYI, 13yo skool grl is nu US txt mssg chmpN“.
Apparently the days of spelling bees are out, and the days of texting bees are in. And it came with no small prize either. The 13 year old won a $10,000 prize for winning the East Coast Championship, and then another $15,000 for winning the national title.
If you read the article, it says that she practiced for the competition by sending over 8,000 texts a month to her friends — 1 every 5 and half minutes. That’s just crazy. I know my sister is on the phone constantly with her friends, but even she doesn’t have enough to talk about to text 8,000 times a month.
But the big question I have is: will she get arthritis in her thumbs by age 25?

Geeze Lauren… because you’re SOOOOOOOO OLD. What does that make me?!? Or Mike, because he’s older than me. Now that’s old. Haha.
Now for my opinion on this one… I think it’s ridiculous that they gave that much money for a text message writing contest. That prize money could have gone to much better causes than a girl who simply spends too much time on her cell phone.

Then you’d have to text with a pencil in your mouth — I see another idea for a competition.
