Well, I hope you all had a good Easter with lots of food and Easter candy. I know I did. I gotta do a lot of extra exercising this week to make up for all the food I ate this weekend, or maybe just put off the exercise until summer.
One of the significant things for me about Easter this year is that it means I only have 3 weeks of class left in the semester! So it’s an exciting time to know that I don’t have many more days left in the semester, but it’s also that time in the semester where lack of sleep and stress has taken a toll. As such, we all need study breaks to take our mind off the endless cycle of tests and assignments, and if you’re not in college, a break from work is always needed.
The first website will make you laugh and maybe cry from laughing so hard. It is the Adventures of Tinfoil Man. As the website says,
Through his videos, you will learn, grow and someday you too will be able to say with confidence, “I think I’ve gone Mad”
So go check it out. These videos are extremely enlightening and if nothing else will help relieve the tension we all walk around with daily. You can also view the videos on YouTube here. I think there are 5 videos in all right now. So you definitely don’t want to miss out. I also happen to know that the Tinfoil Man also enjoys receiving positive feedback on his videos, so be sure to leave a comment.
The other website to check it out is not so funny, but it’s a cool use of technology. If you are into all the software that Google puts out (they own YouTube as well) you’ve probably used Google Earth. Well, the US Holocaust Memorial Museum (I have been to it in Washington D.C) used the Google Earth database and created an interactive map where you can check out what’s happening in Darfur (in Africa). If you don’t know about what is happening in Darfur or you want to know more about it, you can download a “layer” for Google Earth that will display a bunch of information on the map about villages that have been damaged or destroyed because of the genocide, and even has pictures of the goings on. This is all part of the Holocaust Museum’s initiative to make people more aware of genocide going on in the world today. They say on their website that they plan on doing this same thing for other genocides taking place in different parts of the world.
It’s an awesome way to use technology to connect the world together and make the genocide that happens globally not feel so distant, as it often can, which is sad because what happens in places like Darfur is heartbreaking. I was reading “Sex God” today (in the book list to the right — a definite must read for all) and in it the author summarized Jesus’ gospel as this: “People are worth dying for.” So it’s important that we, as Christ followers, take on the same attitude in the way we relate to those around us and the world. What’s happening in Darfur and many other places in the world should move us to do something. So go visit this website to download the Google Earth stuff.
