Last night, a couple friends of mine, Evan and Nick, and I went to the Newsboys/Kutless/Stellar Kart/”Daughter of the Newsboys Manager” concert. The concert was at UC Irvine and so we got directions from Google Map. However, Google led us astray a residential street which turned into a culdesac - nowhere near where we wanted to end up. It turns out that instead of giving us directions to 100 Bren Events Center, Google gave us directions to 100 Brena Center, which we found out, doesn’t actually exist (the address of one house on the culdesac was 48 Brena Center). This left us a long way from where we meant to go, so we just started driving on Culver towards UC Irvine (since we saw a sign for UCI pointing that way), hoping to eventually run into the campus. Forty-Five minutes later and a call to Evan’s mom and we finally found our way to the concert.
Once inside, we went looking for seats. I asked one of the ushers where our seats were, and she told us we were seating on the floor, in the 16th row! So we got awesome seats for the concert right up close to the stage. If you think OverDrive is loud on Sunday, it’s got nothing on how loud this concert was. The guitars riffs were great and the bass was tossing the Carl’s Jr. around in my stomach. My ears are still ringing from the sound.
I’d have to say that this concert was probably the best concert I’ve been to. You might be thinking I’m crazy, because I went to a concert with “Christian Rock music” and there’s no way it could have been any good. But I’ve never seen a show like the Newsboys put on. They were a band I like in the 5th grade, but the visual effects - the confetti, the fog, the 6 video screens, and the flashing lights - made for an awesome show! At one point, the platform the drums were on lifted up off the ground and while the drummer was playing the drums, the platform rotated perpendicular to the ground and started spinning. The Newsboys may not be one of my favorite bands anymore, but they sure do know how to entertain.
Lastly, while we may have gotten lost, and drove around on 5 southern california freeways, we saw this sign for a gated community:
